LAFC Takes Control with 3-0 Win Over Cruz Azul in Quarterfinal First Leg

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles FC continued its strong start to the season with a 3-0 win over Cruz Azul in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal at BMO Stadium.

With the win, LAFC remains undefeated through 11 matches (9 wins, 2 draws) and moves closer to advancing to the semifinals.

The match did not start easily for LAFC. Cruz Azul came out aggressive and created early chances, forcing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to make key saves in the opening minutes. LAFC looked slightly off pace early while trying to adjust to Cruz Azul’s pressure.

As the first half continued, LAFC settled into the game and began to take control.

The first goal came midway through the half when Son Heung-Min finished a well-worked play, giving LAFC the lead and shifting momentum.

After that goal, LAFC looked more confident and organized on both sides of the field.

David Martínez extended the lead soon after, using his speed and strength to get past defenders and finish the play. He later added a second goal in the second half with a low shot into the corner, securing a two-goal performance.

Defensively, LAFC stayed disciplined throughout the match. Lloris made multiple saves to keep the clean sheet and prevent Cruz Azul from getting back into the game.

The atmosphere at BMO Stadium was intense, with many Cruz Azul supporters in attendance. However, LAFC’s supporters responded as the match went on, especially after the opening goal.
